GUEST DESIGNING FOR CROPSTOP - BIRD CRAZY

Hi there blog friends!!!

Today is a exciting day for me, I've been asked my my crafting friend, Esther Asbury to be a guest designer for CropStop, a fabulous one-stop shopping place for many brands for papercrafters.

I've had these Bird Crazy stamps from Tim Holtz and Stampers Anonymous for some time and always love using them.  Their faces are so funny and I love inking them up and creating with them.

I positioned my chosen birds on my MISTI stamp positioner where I wanted them to be on the panel.  After stamping them with Memento black ink, I colored them with Copic Markers.  Once the coloring was done, I positioned the coordinating die over each bird and die cut them out.  I then trimmed the panel with a stitched border die from My Favorite Things and replaced the birds into the negative space on the panel.  This gives a lot of dimension to the individual birds.  I added a MFT heart balloon die, which was cut out of hot pink card stock multiple times and stacked on top of each other.  For a final touch of dimension I added Glossy Accents to the eyes. The sentiment, hearts and little bouquet are all from the Stampers Anonymous "Things/Talk" from Tim Holtz.

Thank you for asking me to be a guest designer for CropStop Blog.  I'll be back next week with another project for you.

I have created 3 cards to show off some of these new stamps.

First is this beauty, "Something Different".  A stamp that literally stands alone if you'd like it to.  I wanted to give it a bright background so I used Distress Oxide Inks (Salty Ocean and Picked Raspberry) and water on water color paper.  For highlights I used Nova Glitter Marker in silver, which leaves a lovely luminous effect.

I think of all the sets released this month this one "Keep Chickens" is my favorite.  The faces on these birds crack me up and I smiled the entire time was was creating with them.  (I'll have more cards to post in the future).  I colored these with Copic Markers.

My final card features two stamps, "Why Fit In" (love it) and "Stone Wall".  The giraffe is wearing goggles, which I think is a cute element on this stamp.  My stonewall is multi-layers for texture and effect.  I stamped it twice, colored and inked it with Distress Ink (Pumice Stone) and Copic Markers.  I fussy cut various areas of the "stones" and adhered them haphazardly over the first layer.  I loved the texture it created here.

Now, head on over to the super talented Stephanie's blog so she can show you her incredible creations.

JANUARY 2018 - SKETCH CHALLENGE AT THE HOUSE THAT STAMPS BUILT

Hi there House friends!

We have a fifth Wednesday in this month so that means our challenge at The House That Stamps Built is a sketch challenge.

It's nearly Valentine's day, but this card was made for a friend who lost her best (doggy) friend a few weeks ago.  It's always such a sad time for us who love our fur babies when they cross the rainbow bride.

The stamps used on this card are RI#2509-H- "Love, Hugs and Kisses" and RI#4316-I "Flowering Hearts".   I used Copic Markers to color the flowering hearts.

Here's the challenge, what can you do with this?

For more fabulous ideas on using this sketch, check out what fabulous projects my team mates have done.

Now it's your turn to get creative and have some fun with this sketch.  Come on over and play along with this week's challenge at The House.  All the details on how to play can be found there.

Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope to see you in the challenge.

SPATTERED OMBRE - JUST CHICKIN'IN

Hi there Technique Junkies!

Have you played in the new challenge, "Spattered Ombre", at the Design Blog yet?  You should play....you might just win yourself some fabulous Technique Junkies Stamps.

I made this card while playing around with this technique and some incredibly cute Technique Junkies Stamps, "Chicken" and "Chicken Sayings Set of Two".  You can get these stamps for 10% off, and any other stamps you might like from the Technique Junkies store, by using my discount coupon TJ10Cheri.  Just type it in at check out.

The background was created by dragging a light dye ink pad down the surface of the card panel and then using a credit card, I drew it across a darker brown ink pad and scraped it across the panel.  I like how it turned out.

There's a lot going on at Technique Junkies, stop by, and sign up to get the Design Junkies Blog so you don't miss any daily postings.  You'll see incredible paper craft artists there and join our monthly challenge.   And come on over to our FaceBook Page and join us there.

PICK OF THE WEEK - FLORAL ARTIST TRADING CARDS

Hi everyone,

Cheri here with my pick of the week for you.  I don't know about you, but I'm getting tired of snow and cold, so I decided to pick some flowers and spray some vibrant colors around my snowy world to share with you.  I love making ATC's so I picked that as my way of showing off the flowers.

The stamps I used on my ATC's are RI#4308-J "Lilly of the Valley", RI#904-L "Daffodils", RI#1320-M "Spring Blossoms", RI#5125-C "Dragonfly Sil, Sm" and the sentiment is from the #9900 "Hello Series", the word "love".

Here are the supplies I used:  Heavy gesso (but you can use any gesso), six ATC cards (2.5x3.5) cut from 140# watercolor paper, water in a spray bottle, various round, found objects, inks/paints (I used ColorBursts pigment powders), paint brush and Washi tape.

I first connected my ATC cards together with Washi Tap.  This is not removed and becomes part of the background.

I then sprayed the whole area with water and sprinkled on the pigment powder.  I choose three colors and let the pigments work with the water adding more water and powders where I thought they were needed, being careful not to add too much in order to avoid muddying the inks.

I then sopped up the excess with a paper towel.  Such pretty results.

Keeping the panels together, I dried them completely with my heat gun (you could also let them air dry), but they have to be completely dry before starting the next step of applying Mod Podge (This should have been added to the supply photo)

Dry completely again and using the found, round objects I dipped them in Gesso and "stamped" circles around the panel.  Once again, dry completely before moving to the next step of separating the ATCs.  I used a ruler and my craft knife, but you can use whatever you have to separate them cleanly.  There were a few pieces of Washi Tape that needed to be stuck down again and I used little bits of wet glue to do that.  But the Mod Podge should have sealed them well.

The next step is to stamp on them.  Because I used Mod Podge to seal the cards, I needed to stamp my images with an ink like StazOn that stamps on non-porous surfaces.  If you don't use Mod Podge any dye or pigment ink may work fine.  I let the StazOn ink dry completely (I left them overnight).

Now I have six beautiful ATC's.  See how the Washi Tape gave an additional interest to the background?  Love it!

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoyed my Pick of the Week!

For this week only (Jan. 29 – Feb. 4, 2018), get 20% Off the stamps I used in this project when you use the coupon code POTW12918 at the Repeat Impressions store.
