DESIGNER'S CHOICE CHALLENGE AT THE HOUSE THAT STAMPS BUILT

Hump day....time for another challenge at The House That Stamps Built.  This time it's a designer's choice challenge and the designer who's turn it is to challenge us is the super talented Debbie Fisher.  Debbie is challenging us to an ABC (anything but a card) challenge.  I find these to be the most difficult challenges for me.  Mostly because I'm so void of creative ideas for them.  

That said, I've been wanting to create some glass refrigerator magnets for about a year now.  I got the idea when I picked some store bought ones as little gifts for some of my co-workers.  I thought "I could do that".   Well, once I started....I couldn't stop! Too addicting and the Repeat Impressions stamps worked out incredibly well.

Here is a photo of some of those that I made.

I bought some glass decorator stones from the floral department in Michaels and then found some round magnets that fit the backs of them.  

The stamps I used for this project are:

PROJECT OF THE WEEK AT THE HOUSE THAT STAMPS BUILT

Hi there!    

Cheri here and I'm very excited to be bringing you another project of the week for The House That Stamps Built blog.  I've chosen a technique that many of you have seen before.  It's an easy technique that renders a different look no matter how many times you do it, and therefore gives endless stunning results.  It's simply called the shaving cream technique and here is how it's done.

The supplies are basic and simple; shaving cream (the cheapest works great), but avoid any with additives or the gel type.  They may affect the results with the inks or paints you might use.  An assortment of dye ink refills or acrylic paints.  Popsicle sticks for stirring, a tray to layer the shaving cream on (or paper plate), I used an old cookie sheet.  A heavier card stock works best, 110# or 120# or watercolor paper works too.  A ruler or some straight edge tensile to scrape the shaving cream off the card stock with.  

The first thing you'll do is spray your tray with shaving cream

Smooth this out with your ruler or straight edge utensil

Next add your inks or paints in drops randomly over the shaving cream and using your Popsicle stick blend the colors in a marbling effect being careful not to over blend the colors.  

Once blended to your satisfaction, take your card stock (I always pre-cut mine to A2 size) and place it carefully face down onto the shaving cream.  

Carefully lift your cardstock from the shaving cream by grabbing opposite corners and lifting off the bed of shaving cream and ink.  Then using your ruler or straight edge utensil, in one stroke, scrap the excess shaving cream from the face of the card stock.

Dry your layers completely, either by leaving it to dry naturally or by using a heat gun.  I prefer drying it naturally.  Often times the card stock will bend and will not dry straight, but that's okay, you will fix that when you glue it against your card base layer.  

I did two different shaving cream projects.  With one I used dye ink refills and one I used acrylic paints.

COLOR CHALLENGE - THE HOUSE THAT STAMPS BUILT

Are you having fun with the new challenge rotation at The House That Stamps Built? There's a new challenge every week...and you can really get your craft on by participating in them.  

This week, it's a color challenge....you might not think this one is too challenging, but, for me it was a true challenge.  

Here's the challenge

I am so loving watercoloring backgrounds these days and I thought this challenge might work for a background so I created this card.

To create the silhouette look I used RI Stamp #2408-N "Large Palm Trees" #2417-I "Small Palm Trees" as well as RI#3412-C "Gulls in Flight and finally the sentiment RI#2407-G "Life's A Beach".    I used a stitched frame from MFT to frame it and layered it on a black card base.

ANYTHING GOES CHALLENGE AT THE HOUSE THAT STAMPS BUILT

Hi blog friends!  

There's an exta week tucked into this month of April, so there's an additional challenge at The House That Stamps Built and it's an "anything goes challenge".  So join in and have some fun with whatever you'd like to do for the challenge!  

Here is a card I made for the challenge.  I love the dog stamps that Wendy has created for Repeat Impressions.  I'm a dog person....and a cat's person and love, love, love her dog and cat stamps.

Very quick card to put together.  The Repeat Impressions stamps I used are RI#8109-L "Poodle" and RI#8113-F "Life Without Dogs" .  The poodle was colored with Copic Markers and fussy cut.

WHAT IF? WEDNESDAY AT THE HOUSE THAT STAMPS BUILT

Hello blog friends!  

It's Wednesday and if you're a regular follower, you know each Wednesday, there's a new challenge over at The House That Stamps Built.  This week it's a sketch challenge.  Come on over and join the fun and get in a drawing to win some awesome Repeat Impressions stamps.

Wendy, owner and amazing artist of Repeat Impressions stamps, comes up with a sketch each month for us to play with and this month she came up with this

So, what do you think?  Pretty neat sketch, don't you think?  Lots of opportunity here to use some awesome bg papers or scraps or even give the sketch a flip.  

Here is my card using the sketch.  

For this card I used three of the Repeat Impressions patriotic type stamps  RI#1701-P "Bald Eagle" , RI#5104-C "Star Sil Sm." and RI#3711-G "God Bless America".  I decided to keep this monochromatic and used kraft paper plain and embossed with gold embossing powder (although I don't think you can see that one strip very well in the bg).
