Designer's Choice Challenge at Repeat Impressions

Hi Blog Friends,

There are two posts on my blog today and I hope you'll find some inspiration in one or both of them.

The each month a Rock Stars DT at Repeat Impressions/The House That Stamps Built  present a "Designer's Choice Challenge" and this month it's Kendra's turn and she has challenged us to a stairstep card.  These are fun to make and really fun to receive.

I hope you'll try Kendra's challenge, because you just might win some of the fabulous stamps from Repeat Impressions.  Head on over to The House That Stamps Built and check it out.

Here is my stairstep card for Kendra's challenge.

For my card I started with Gina K Designs card stock "Ocean Mist" and used Basic Grey "Urban Prarie" for layering.  The fantastic stamps are of course Repeat Impression #716-G " "Moon Angel" and  #6103-J Vertical Stamp.

GingerSnaps Creations Color Challenge

Hello blog friends,

It's been such a fabulous month at GINGERSNAPS CREATIONS as a guest artist and I can hardly believe that it's come to an end!  March always seems like such a long month, but not this year....it flew by.

I want to thank all the Gingers, especially Ali Manning and Sharon Briss, for inviting me to be a guest artist and for the wonderful encouraging words left by all the Ginger's that stopped by here.

The last challenge for GingerSnaps Creations is a color challenge and for me, this truly was a challenge.   I didn't know if I was having one of those "blocks" where I couldn't think of  a single design idea or if I was truly challenged by the colors (I've been more in a "spring" color frame of mind and these colors seemed "fallish" to me). Just at the point when I thouhght my mojo had let me down and left the room, I recalled a fantastic color technique I found in Technique Junkies Newsletter (June/July 2011) called, "Vintage Art" and I thought it might work with this color challenge.  It was at this point my mojo came back on board and we began picking up speed.
Since the theme of this month's Gingersnaps Creations Challenges is "family" with a focus "heritage pieces (antiqued and distressed) there was no question which stamp set I wanted to use with the vintage art technique, it was "Milliner Misses" a Rogue Redhead Design stamp set.  These ladies remind me of 3 great aunts of mine (sisters) who never went anywhere without their hats on.
I hope you like how the technique and the stamp set combined for this 4 1/4 X 4 1/4 card.

For even more detail and aged effect, I used the cracked glass technique on the image and added some fabulous cotton lace I bought from Ellen Hutson

I hope you'll go over to Gingersnaps Creations and join in on the challenges and have some fun with them.  Maybe even give this color challenge a try!  There are some great prizes to win.

Thank you for stopping by and for leaving your comments.  They always make my day.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY WENDY!

Happy Birthday, Wendy!!!

Hi there blog friends,
What a fun blog hop this is for the Rock Stars of Repeat Impressions!  We're here to say "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" to Wendy Wyman, the artist and owner of this fabulous rubber called Repeat Impressions.
In honor of Wendy's birthday, her Rock Star Design Team made special cards, either in her favorite colors (purple and green) her favorite critter (Cat), or her favorite get-a-way (Aruba).  We hope we got it covered in all Wendy's fave areas.  Several "Rock Stars", past and present participated and helped us surprise Wendy on her special day.
You're invited to help us celebrate Wendy's birthday, just head on over to Repeat Impressions Facebook Page and leave her a Happy Birthday message.  We know she'd love it.
We hope you've all enjoyed the hop, here are the cards collected and the paper-bag book I made to place them in.
What a fabulous collection of art work this is.  This photo doesn't do justice to the amazing art here.  These ladies are so extremely talented.

This is the cover of Wendy's paper-bag book.  It was a canvas sheet painted with Martha Stewart  acrylic paints Pearl "Hummingbird" and after that dried I painted it again with MS Glitter "Bubble Gum".  If you click on the image you may be able to see the layers.  The ribbons are all pieces I've saved for "something special".   Not sure you can see, but I also included two charms, a lighthouse (Wendy lives in Maine) and a little kitty playing with a ball of yarn.  Inside, I also inlcuded a "W" charm.

This is the first page, and I didn't realize until after I'd reviewed the photos that the "W" charm is turned backwards....it had some "bling" to it if it were turned around.

This is one of the page designs for the inside of the paper bag book.

I created the design via a video by Following the Paper Trail.

You'll want to check out each of the Rock Stars to see these amazing birthday cards.

Random Challenge at Gingersnaps Creations

Hi Blog friends!!!

Oh!  What fun we're having at Gingersnaps Creations this month.  It's all about "Family" with a focus on "Heritage Pieces".

This week's Random Challenge is "Last Century".

Wow!  The last century is a wide creative berth for a project.....just imagine from the beginning to the end of the 1900's and without stretching it, the vast amount of changes from the humble horse and buggy to moon travel (just an example).  How about fashion?  Wow!  Industrialization, communications, socializations......I often think about my grandparents who actually lived nearly the entirety of that century.....did they ever reflect on what they'd lived to witness and were they as impressed when they reflected as I am?

When I went to create something for this challenge, my thoughts went to the WWII era.  This was my parents' era - in my romantic world, I would love to revisit it....in my reality world.....maybe not.  Nevertheless, it was a time of the "Greatest Generation" and I value them and wanted to create something that depicted that.

Here is my "Last Century" creation.

I used the fabulous stamps from Oxford Impressions  "Casablanca" sheet.   The image is a digi from Digital Collage Sheets- the button is one I retrived from my mother's button collection from the era.

Thank you so much for stopping by.  I hope you'll leave a comment.
