ANYTHING GOES CHALLENGE AT THE HOUSE THAT STAMPS BUILT JUNE 2017

Hello there House guests.....we've got a bonus Wednesday challenge this month (since there are 5 in this month) and it's an the ever popular Anything Goes challenge at The House That Stamps Built

Cut your artistic, crafty spirit loose and join us.  It's always fun to see what ends up in the links.

As we soon will be celebrating our American birthday on July 4th, the card I created was inspired from watching the videos of the magnificent American bald eagle, "Challenger" soar through stadiums and across fields for American celebrations and remembrances as the National Anthem is played.  You can find his video's on YouTube.  Here's one clip.

Challenger was blown out of his nest when he was an eaglet. Some well meaning humans kept him and took care of him.  However, he was hman imprinted and was never able to be reintroduced into the wild again.  He's the only eagle in the U.S ever trained to fly at such events.  Quite a story and I always get all choked up when I see him do this with the music of our National Anthem in the background.  He's named after the space shuttle "Challenger"  which disasterously exploded after take off in 1986.

Keeping this very CAS.  The eagle is RI#1701-P "Bald Eagle" and the sentiment is RI#3711-G "God Bless America".  I colored the eagle with my Chameleon Colortone pencils (have I mentioned how much I love these pencils?  *smile*)

JUNE 2017 - INSPIRATION CHALLENGE AT THE HOUSE THAT STAMPS BUILT

Hello House Guests!!!

Where is June going????  It just got here and now we're nearly out of days for the month....only two more weeks left to enter our challenges at The House That Stamps Built for a chance to win some fabulous Repeat Impressions Stamps.

Here's this week's beautiful inspiration challenge to help you get your juices running.

I LOVED the colors in this inspiration and decided it would be a great way to use my Distress Oxide Inks and create a background.  I used Faded Jeans, Worn Lipstick and Tumbled Glass and simply pressed them to my craft mat, sprayed with water and put the card stock on them.  They blended together so beautifully.  I had another card stock piece and placed it in the mix to get a second background piece to use when I need it.

The stamps I used are RI # 8205-O "Cat Beauty", which I colored with Copic Markers and RI#1105-E "Thinking of You".  Isn't that cat the cutest?  Love it.

BY THE SEA

Hi there Junkies!

I had fun last week revisiting an older technique I hadn't done in a while.  It looks so rich on the dark teal card stock.

Using my MISTI, I stamped the "Beautiful Conch" stamp on the teal cs with white pigment ink.  I stamped it several times, however, I let it dry between each stamping in order to get a good white coverage of the stamp.  After I stamped it the final time, while it was still wet, I sprinked it with pearl white ep and heat embossed it.  I cut around the image and set it aside.  I also stamped the shell again on a thicker piece of cs and cut that out so I could give the embossed image some dimension.

Using gold pigment ink, I inked up the background stamp "Crosshatch" in gold pigment ink and stamped it on a white cs panel.  After it dried, I  put the two shell pieces together and placed the shell against the panel.

To finish it off, I stamped a sentiment from "By The Sea Set of 6" set with VersaMark ink and heat embossed with white ep.

This is such a cool and different way of playing with your stamps.

So, that's it for me today.  I hope you find some inspiration and get your craft on....it's fun there!

REMINDER:  I have a coupon for you if you'd like to get a 10% discount on all TJ stamps (excluding the June release stamps).  Just use it at check out and enjoy your purchase.

MAKING CARDS FROM NAPKINS - PROJECT OF THE WEEK

Hi everyone,

Cheri here with a fun Project of the Week for you.  I love doing all sorts of craft things with pretty napkins and one of the things I like to do is make cards with them. Let me show you how I do it.

The supplies I use are napkins (of course), gel matte medium, two paint brushs (one for the gel medium and one for water - only one brush is shown in the photo) and card stock of your choice.  I used 80# white for this.

The first thing you'll need to do is separate your napkins.  Some are 2 ply and some are 3 ply.  It's important to only have the image layer of the napkin.  The easiest way I've found to separate the panels is take a piece of tape, and stick it to the back side of the napkin and pull off the layers.  They  come apart easily this way.  Once separated, you can cut the napkin is sections.

The next step is to find the area of the napkin you want to have on your card layer and you can easily tear that away by taking one of your paint brushes get it lightly wet and barely touch the outside area of the image, being careful to keep the water from wetting more area than you wish.

The next step is to apply gel medium to the brush you've set aside for that and use the gel to attach the torn napkin to your card stock panel by adding it to the cs piece as well as brushing it across the napkin once it's in place on the cs.  Be sure to brush gently from the center to the outside in order to avoid wrinkles and tearing.

Once dry, you can trim your piece and create your card.  This is a great technique for a quick card using just a sentiment stamp.

I have made these in sets and given them as gifts many times.  They really are quite fun to make and I'm sure you can think of many other ways to use those pretty napkins.

 I used RI Stamps # 8114-F Chicken Soup/Puppies
                           RI# 1112-E "Just a Note"

 RI#1145-F "Greetings From"
RI Plate# 9800

I hope you'll give this project a try...it's really a fun one.

Helllllooooo House Peeps!!!

It's Wednesday and there's a new challenge at The House That Stamps Built!  It's time for another Tic, Tac, Toe challenge and here it is

Just look at all these fun options!!!!!  I decided to do one of the diagonals; Jewel Tones, Clean and Simple and Dogs.

Hands down, one of the cutest ever stamps is RI#8104-I "Happy Puppy" .  I did a little masking and got a group of them together, LOL.  I added RI# 5118-H "Heart Sil Lg" making balloons from the stamp with the jewel tone colors, and the sentiment is RI# 8610-D "Party".

HATS OFF TO DAD

Hellooooo Junkies!!!!!

This Sunday we'll be celebrating Father's Day here in the States.  There are some really great male stamps in the store at Technique Junkies and today I'm playing with one of the most recent ones called "Hats Off to Dad" from the May release.

Truth be told...this set doesn't just cover Father's Day, it could be a birthday, or any occasion where you might want to honor a father.  Let your imagination go wild.  It's really a fun set. I did some surgery on the set I have and cut all the hats off into individual pieces.  I can always reassemble them if I want to, but I like the idea that I can use these hats in many other ways individually.

In addition to the Hat's Off set on this card, I used a cool stencil from A Colorful Life Stencils called "City Windows".  I placed the stencil on a white cs layer and sponged Distress Inks.  First, Fresh Squeezed Lemon and then on just the base of the "windows",  Mustard Seed for some shadow and contrast.  I then stamped each hat in one of the windows with Archival black ink.  For additional detail I added little "stitch" marks around each one with my ultra-fine Sharpie black pen.  Finally, I added some sparkle with my Wink of Stella pen to each hat.  The sentiment, stamped with Archival black and heat embossed with clear ep, was die cut with a rectangle die and frame set.

For this card, I also used "Here We Go Round in Circles" to build my bg.  I used a variety of colored dye inks I have for the colored dots.  After stamping the hats "floating" with Archival black in, I sprinkled clear ep over them and heat embossed.  Giving them a little added dimension.  The sentiment was also stamped and heat embossed the same way.  I cut a piece of dp, to accent the die fin cut over the sentiment piece, and, I added faux stitching in both white and black along the edges.

So, that's it for me today.  I hope you find some inspiration and get your craft on....it's fun there!

REMINDER:  I have a coupon for you if you'd like to get a 10% discount on all TJ stamps (excluding the June release stamps).  Just use it at check out and enjoy your purchase.

JUNE 2017 DESIGNER'S CHOICE CHALLENGE AT THE HOUSE THAT STAMPS BUILT

Greetings House guests,

It's June (already)...we're half-way though the year 2017 and over at The House That Stamps Built, there's a new challenge.

It's Designer's Choice and this month, Donna is the designer who makes the choice and she is challenging us to use Washi tape on our projects.

I used RI stamps #919-I "Irish Window" and the sentiment is #9717-C "Happy Hello".

The iris in my garden are in full bloom and they are so beauitful.  We've had nothing but rain for weeks...rarely a day of sunshine, yet somehow the iris are luminous and blooming.  What a sight to see in the early morning light.

I colored the iris with my Chameleon Colortone Pencils.  I absolutely LOVE using them.  My washi tape is simply placed as a focal image bg.  I added some gold thread behind the image for texture and accent as well as a few sequins.

Come on over to The House and join in on Donna's challenge.  All the details can be found there.

For even more incredible DCC challenge inspiration take a look at what these awesome ladies have created.

MY HOPE FLIES ON WINGS OF POSSIBILITES

Hello Junkies!!!

I've got a quick post for you today combining two (I think) gorgeous and compatiable TJ stamps.

Watercolor Hummingbird is brand new!  It's from our recent June New Stamp Release and if you'd like to have it in your collection, you can get it, and all the new June Stamps, for a great discount of 15% off until June 8.  (There are only TWO days left to get the discount). You don't even need a coupon code...just put the new stamps in your cart and the discount is automatically applied.  Easy peasy.

The sentiment stamp I combined with "Watercolor Hummingbird" is "Wings of Possibility".   I'm in love with that script writing and the sentiment.

Here's how I created the card:  Using my MISTI, I stamped each stamp on a watercolor paper panel in Archival black ink.  I then taped off the outside borders with painter's tape in a diagonal.  In the exposed area around the images I used my Koi watercolor to paint the background.  After drying the panel, I flicked a little black acrylic paint mixed with water across the panel before taking the tape off.  For a little added dimension I added some black Ranger Enamel Accents.

Now, here's a good deal too....if you'd like any TJ Stamps from the store, (excluding the new June Release Stamps) and would like a discount on those....just use my personal discount code TJ10CHERI and shop away.

Okay...that's it for me today.  Have you stopped by the TJ FaceBook page?  You can find some creativness there as well as learn what's going on with the Junkies and get the latest information on the new challenge.  It's all there, so come on over and check it out.

Thanks so much for stopping by...I hope you found some inspiration while you were here.

So, here we go....

Here are three cards I created with some of the new stamps.

If you have a golfer in your life, and so many of us do...."Let's Play A Round" stamp set is a must have for your collection.  There are 5 stamps in the whole collection. (Don't you love that title and the play on words...it made me laugh).  To create this card, I first started on the background by sponging Distress Inks on one of the fabulous "A Colorful Life Stencils" called "Square Perspective".   I then trimmed down the layer and matted it onto black cs.  Using my MISITI, I stamped the golfer with VersaFine Black Ink several times.  I wanted to get a great coverage.  I then fussy cut him out.  The sentiment was stamped in VersaMark and white heat embossed on a black panel of cs.  I used dimensional tape on the back of the sentiment to place it on the card panel and for additional fun, I added a wobble to the back of the golfer.  He really swings!

Two fabulous new stamps are used on this shaker card.  The backgrounds were done using "Sudsy Stuff".  The front layer was first stamped with VersaMark and then heat embossed with clear ep.  It gives such a lovely texture and beautiful sudsy look.  It was used again behind the seahorses stamped with white pigment ink.  The seahorses and sentiment come from "Seahorses Set of 4".  They were stamped with Memento "Potter's Clay" ink.  I heat embossed the sentiment onto acrylic with white ep.  The acrylic is created for heat embossing.

My final card uses "Mermaid on Rock" and "Wild Sea Air".  This card was created by first stamping the image on a white cs panel.  I then cut her out as a mask and masked her.  I also made some masks with post it notes and masked off a horizon and some rocks.  I used Distress Inks to sponge in the scene. The mermaid was colored with Copic Markers and the sentiment was stamped with VersaMark and heat embossed with white ep.

IF you'd like some more shopping discount fun...you can purchase all other TJ stamps and receive a 10% discount on your entire order (other than the new June stamps) by entering my code TJ10Cheri in the "discount code" area at check out.

MAY 2017 SKETCH CHALLENGE AT THE HOUSE THAT STAMPS BUILT

Hey there House guests!

We're ending the month of May with a sketch challenge at The House That Stamps Built.  I'm not going to lie....sketch challenges really challenge me.  I think it has something to do with having to conform....LOL.  I'm a wild child!!!!   SEE....

My card uses RI Stamps #9611-H "Lemon/Lime, #9604-F "When Life" and 9612-F "Citrus Life" all from the "Bottoms Up Set".  I hand wrote the "color them" addition.

As you can see, I did a lot of masking and coloring (with Copic Markers).  I also used RI Flip Stitch dies, to cut the window for the whole lemon as well as the banner for the sentiment.  I love to color and saw this on Pinterest and just had to give it a try with those Repeat Impressions stamps.

There's an additional fun spot on the card, as I added a "wobble" to the full sized lemon.

Here's the sketch and I hope you have some fun with it.  I did!

REMEMBERING WITH GRATITUDE

Greetings Junkies!!!

This date is the official Memorial Day here in the USA.  Once called "Decoration Day", it's day set aside to remember those who died in the service or our country.  It started after the Civil War and continues today.  Back in the 1971, an act of congress changed the date to be the last Monday in May.

Growing up, I remember Memorial Day was a day when members of the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) passed out red poppies and took donations to help maintain a fund to buy flags to place at the graves of deceased veterans.

The story of the red poppies being a symbol of Memorial Day has two parts, it was inspired from a poem "In Flanders Field" written by a Canadian, Lieutenant Colonel John McCrea in 1915.  Inspired by this poem, an American Moina Michael wrote her own poem and conceived the idea to wear the red poppy as a symbol to remember those who gave their lives in war.

The card I made today is honoring those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for world freedoms.

When I saw the poppy stamp in the Technique Junkies store, I knew I wanted to have it in my collection.  It's simplicity is stunning and can be easily colored with whatever medium you choose.  I used Copic Markers here.

I first stamped the poppy on a card layer, colored it and masked it.  I then inked the poppy again with Pumice Stone Distress Ink and stamped some more images around the mask.  For additional texture, I used Herringbone Tweed background stamp inked with the same DI ink in Pumice Stone.  That gave it a "linen" look.

I couldn't stop there, so keeping the mask in place, I mixed up some black acrylic paint and water and splattered it across the layer for even more texture.  The sentiment was made with my old label maker.  (That puppy comes in handy so often.)

If you'd like a little discount for some awesome Technique Junkies Stamps, here's a discount code to help with that.

I hope you didn't mind the history lesson and I pray we never forget those who sacrificed everything defending freedom.  It's a precious gift.

Woohooo!!! Only two more days and it will be the first of the month and time for a new release from Technique Junkies!!!!  We'll be hopping with all the new stamps on Thursday, June 1.  You don't want to miss it!

Thanks for stopping by today.  See you Thursday!
